How they met.
"We originally met in High School and remained friends while Laura went off to college. After 16 years, we began dating when Laura officially moved back to MN in 2018. We now have a home that ties Laura's love for homesteading with chickens and an urban garden along with Mel's appreciation for cooking and documenting life as a photographer. We also have two dogs - Tulsi and Rye that we take on adventures every chance we can get! Being outdoors and exploring the BWCA is our ideal "vacation". In fact, it was our first date that we ended up going to Tofte for a weekend getaway that really sparked our love."

How they asked.
"Every winter we do a trip up north, so this year in January we rented a remote (off grid) cabin along the North Shore for snowshoeing in the woods that made for the perfect backdrop for Mel to pop the question. It wasn't entirely a surprise to Laura since Mel had to get a family ring re-sized that Laura was very much aware of but didn't see until that very moment."

Mel & Laura featured so many personal details, but one of our favorites was the Tabbouleh Salad that was served family style at each table. This delicious parsley salad is from Laura's Persian heritage - and has been added to our grocery list since!

Instead of a receiving line, Mel and Laura did the most Minnesotan thing and had a getaway pontoon boat with an adorable "Just Married" banner on the back. Instead of being bombarded by their guests following the ceremony, they got to spend some quiet time on the lake, to let it sink in that they're now a married couple.

Tent tip: When planning a backyard wedding with a tent, placement is everything. If possible, we always suggest a driveway. Having a level surface, basically a floor makes a huge difference and makes it feel more like a venue, not a tent.

The Final Score.
All the details were intentional. We loved bringing forward all the things that make up Laura and Mel. They brought awesome activities for guests like caricatures, mocktail bar, delicious desserts, and a funky band in a barn. From cruising on the lake to dancing under the disco ball, the day was filled with memories and love.

Words of love.
"From the moment we met with Cassondra, she understood our vision and executed every detail beautifully. She managed everything from coordinating the ceremony flow to handling the tiniest day-of details we hadn’t even considered, allowing us to be fully present and enjoy each and every moment."
